Nxai Pan National Park is part of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan Complex in Botswana, covering an area of 2,100 square kilometers. The Makgadikgadi Salt Pan consists of three main parts: Nxai Pan, Kgama-Kgama Pan, and Kudiakam Pan. Nowadays, the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan Basin is covered with lush green grasses and scattered with many umbrella thorn trees. During the rainy season, small water pools are formed, providing sufficient water sources for the survival of animals.
Wildlife viewing in Nxai Pan National Park is also seasonal, depending on whether there is rainfall in the area. Large numbers of animals migrate here when there is rain; some artificial water wells are also distributed in the area for animals to drink from. If rainfall is abundant, the best time to visit here is from December to April each year. Visitors commonly see a variety of wildlife, including zebras, wildebeests, springboks, impalas, gemsboks, elands, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, bat-eared foxes, elephants, and buffaloes. Nxai Pan National Park is one of the easiest parks for tourists to reach in the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan area, just 50 kilometers from Nata-Maun.
