Alofaaga Blowholes – Samoa Alofaaga Blowholes Travel Guide

The Alofaaga Blowholes, also known as the Taga Blowholes, are reputed to be the highest blowholes in the world where water is blown. Located in the village of Taga on Savai’i Island in Samoa, the water from the blowholes can reach heights of nearly 20 meters. Especially when standing close to the blowholes, one can feel the spray of water shooting out, leaving people in awe of the incredible power of nature. The blowholes are where the sea meets the lava rock beneath, with the rock eroded by the sea water over time, eventually creating cavities underneath. Coupled with holes in the rocks, the crashing waves compress the air, forcefully blowing the sea water into the air. The larger the waves, the higher the water is blown. Standing below the blowholes, one can feel the sensation of being lifted by the powerful force of the water.
